My heart was pumping and I was stammering and I forgot what I prepared. Haha! But it was definitely a special moment when I wanted to let her know that I wanna spend the rest of my life with her.
3 years ago, Eugene and Wendy first met each other at the the Underwater World Singapore, as dolphin trainers. The Singaporean couple had been planning for a trip to Japan, to visit the blooming of cherry blossom season in Kyoto.
Eugene said, "I thought the time would be right to pop the question". He wanted to document this special moment paparazzi style, "I thought how nice if these pictures where captured without her knowing". It was a golden opportunity and he wanted it to be captured under the beautiful cherry blossoms.
While planning for his proposal, he stumbled upon OneThreeOneFour. After browsing and discussing with a couple of Japan-based photographers, Eugene decided to work with Natalie. "I spoke to Natalie who was so eager and enthusiastic about capturing this special moment," Eugene said. After much extensive research, Eugene decided the location for his proposal, Keage Incline – an abandoned railway track lined with 100 sakura trees on the sides. Eugene was super meticulous in his plan, "I made a PowerPoint slide for Natalie, which includes time to meet, what I will be wearing, where to rendezvous, what's the cue that I'm soon about to propose."
Natalie was completely pumped up about this shoot, "It was challenging in that we, complete strangers, needed to arrange a date, time, and location to "cross paths" to make eye contact - I was so nervous I would miss them in the crowds beneath the cherry blossoms in Kyoto! Thankfully, they stood out, and it only took a few minutes for Eugene to build up the courage to ask Wendy to marry him; and of course, she said yes!"
Eugene shared how he felt the exact moment he went down on one knee, "My heart was pumping and I was stammering and I forgot what I prepared. Haha! But it was definitely a special moment when I wanted to let her know that I wanna spend the rest of my life with her."
Congratlulations, Eugene and Wendy on your engagement. We wish you a lifetime of happiness together!
